Step 1 for Prelims 2013

Since KAS prelims for 2015 is expected , Have to start our preparation and i felt it should be started with Analyzing the Previous Question paper .

Prelims 2011-2012 Question paper Analysis:

Prelims Conducted on April 22 2012 with the new pattern coming into force Had the following Elements:


  • Paper 1 had 100 Questions and
  • Paper 2 100 Questions
Paper 1:
  • 40 Questions were from Current Affairs 
  • History around 14 Questions
  • Geography 17 Questions
  • Polity 15 questions
  • Economy 10 Questions
  • Socio-Economic Development around 4 to 5 questions
  • General Science some questions which were current affairs based i guess
Current affairs Included
  • Various Summits or Conferences in world or Indian platform Eg: Literature fest or Energy summit
  • Environment Based questions like National parks etc any chemicals in news for some reason related to environment Animal reserves like tiger etc
  • Sports affairs like Tennis
  • Birth anniversaries of famous personalities
  • River Treaty
  • Various social indicators like Infant mortality rate etc.
History:

Questions were mostly from the Freedom movement 
Ancient had hardly 2 or 3 questions

Geography:

Ocean currents, Rocks formation, Soil related questions, Vegetation type,Atmosphere related some famous lakes river related questions

Polity:

Questions related to Rajya sabha Lok sabha president, Important Cases like Minerva mills case etc. Important Committees Etc 

Economy:

Questions were mostly current affairs based

Paper 2:

Most of the Questions were from Economic survey and rest of the questions included Socio-Economic indicators like IMR or Census data and various schemes by Karnataka Govt
Simple reasoning questions like Venn diagram based graphical representation and passage reading and answering from the same. 

Note:
  • One can not Expect the same pattern of questions this year also, but the basic structure may not change, i.e one should not ignore the basic subjects like History geography polity economy, though questions asked may be less but cant take the chance.
  • Current affairs should be given importance specially the Socio economic concepts. Hence Make notes from news paper without fail.

March 8 2013:

Cabinet approves the Rights of citizens for timebound delivery of Goods and services & redressal of their Grievances Bill 2011 and will have to passed by Parliament to become Law now
Bill Aims to promote Transparency and accountability in the Govt's Service Delivery system. 
Includes Constituional bodies Statutory bodies, Public Private Partnerships, NGO's funded by Govt Etc 
This will Direct the Public authorities to Publish the Citizen Charter detailing the services they offer, Quality of services to be provided and Timeline for   Delivery.
Note: We can Recall here the Karnataka Gurantee of Services to Citizens Act or Sakala Here. 

Opposition Critising the bill that its in line with the Spirit of Federation, saying that Centre should only provide the model and not dictate the states, also that Many states like J&K, UP, Himachal, Rajasthan have already enacted Citizen Charter Acts.

Jan 2013:

1.Wind power in Karnataka

  • According to a Study conducted by Center for study of science Technology and policy (CSTEP) Wastelands are a potential source of Wind power 
  • CSTEP and Bangalore based research institute has estimated that on-shore wind power potential of Karnataka can go up several times if Turbines powered by Taller Windmills are installed.
  • Its said that report is more authentic as Geographical information system was used to map out the wastelands as well as areas rich in Wind potential.
  • Wastelands in Karnataka Could generate at-least power capacity of 50,000 MW of wind energy with turbines fitted with a height of 80 meters,according to the study.
  • The identified districts with good wind power potential are Bellary, Chitradurga Chamarajnagar, Chikkaballapur, and parts of Hasan, Koppal , Bijapur,Chikmagalur and Kolar
  • Study revealed that 5% of the Wind rich agricultural lands could amount to 20,000 MW wind power generation.
  • Also its said that Together Andhrapradesh and Karnataka Amount for a fourth of country's wind power potential.

KAS mains Exams Over

KPSC has successfully conducted Mains exam for gazetted probationers. My wishes for all those who have written the exam. Also i read in prajavani paper which said next Prelims will be conducted after UPSC Prelims. Hence you May Expect the call by March. so do prepare well. Also It would be of great help if Persons who have attended mains share some tips or suggestions to next levels or mains.
